Australian artist Kenzee Patterson has been conducting artistic research on two basalt millstones that most likely found their way from a quarry in the Eifel region to Australia during the colonial era. In the fall of 2024, he spent several months in Germany researching the history of basalt mining in the Vulkaneifel region. During this time, a collaboration developed that found its way into his work Die Matrize   which has been shown in Sydney in April/May 2025.
